Li Xiande and Zhang Yongxun Attend the 46th Conference of Committee on World Food Security (CFS)

  With the invitation of FAO and CFS and approval by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the PRC, Prof. Li Xiande and Dr. Zhang Yongxun from the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development went to Rome, Italy to attend the 46th CFS conference held from 14 October to 18 October, 2019 at the headquarter of FAO.

  The theme of this conference is “Accelerating progress on SDG2 to achieve all the Sustainable Development Goals”, which includes the sessions of “the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2019, Its Policy Implications in the Context of the Sustainable Development Goals, “CFS and the Sustainable Development Goals: Lessons Learned”, “Food Systems and Nutrition”, “Agroecological and Other Innovative Approaches”, etc. Chinese delegate made statements in response to “the report on the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2019”, “Zero Draft of the CFS Voluntary Guidelines on Food Systems and Nutrition” and “the HLPE Report on Agroecological and Other Innovative Approaches for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems that Enhance Food Security and Nutrition”. There were 114 members of the CFS, 12 non-member states of the CFS, 16 United Nations Agencies and Bodies, and 172 Civil society organizations, 12 International Agricultural research Organizations, 7 International and regional financial institutions and Private sector associations and private philanthropic foundations, and 85 Observers to participate in this conference.

  In the side event “Partnering for Impact: A Research and Development response to SDG2” organized by CGIAR and FAO, Prof. Li Xiande made a statement on behalf of China. He introduced Chinese successful practices and experiences on multi-stakeholder partnership and discussed enough with experts attending the meeting, which shared the successful experiences from China and showed the strives for achieving the SDG2 made by China.

  Prof. Li Xiande was elected as the member of the High Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) of CFS again in 2019. He contributes to the research on global food security and safety, regulation of international agriculture, and trade of agricultural products for a long time, and carried out the international consultation and negotiation tasks as the head or important member of China government delegates.
