Xin Xiangfei (deputy researcher) and Wang Jimin (researcher) gets their thesis published on Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics (SCI&SSCI)
Under the support of CAAS New Engineering and ndustrial Economy of Technological System of National Broiler Chicken Industry, the thesis (Effects of Farm Size on Technical Efficiency in China’s Broiler Sector: A Stochastic Meta-Frontier Approach) written by Xin Xiangfei (deputy researcher of IAED, the first writer) and Wang Jimin (IAED researcher) was published on Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics (SCI&SSCI) in Jul. 2016 (impact factor, 1.291, Volume 64, Phase III , P493-516).
Via empirical research on the impact on production efficiency of broiler chicken industry in China by large scale farming, the thesis, depending on Random Metafrontier method, did a measurement and comparison to the production technology efficiency of different farmings. By the empirical research, it was found that large scale farming greatly enhance the production efficiency of broiler chicken industry in China. Compared with small scale farming, intermediate scale farming increases the production efficiency by 8.03% while large scale farming increases by 22.16%. In China, the production efficiency of broiler chicken in south and north are totally different. For example, South China mainly works on yellow feather broiler chicken while North China mainly works on white feather broiler chicken, while the production efficiency in South China is obviously lower than that in North China; what’s more, in South China, the technological efficiency of different scales are totally different. The main reason why production efficiency of yellow feather broiler chicken in South China is lower is that standard scale farming is not widely used in the south.
