A Researcher Li Xiande Attended the 40 Committee Meeting on World Food Security
From October 7 to October 22, 2013, the 40th Committee Meeting on World Food Security (hereinafter referred to as “CFS”) was held in Rome, headquarter of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. As a member of Chinese delegation, the researcher Li Xiande attended this meeting and made a statement on some topics, such as, the bio-fuels and food security and small farmer investment, et al.
the main issues of this conference were: to discuss and review the report of the State of Food insecurity in the World in 2014 issued by FAO; to review the reports completed by high level expert group of food security and nutrition, namely, “Biofuels and Food Security” and “investment on the Peasant Agriculture to Promote Food Security and Nutrition” and to put forward some relevant policy suggestions; to review some topics, such as, the working schedule of Committee Meeting on World Food Security on “Principles of Responsible Agricultural investment and Food System”, the working achievements of five working teams on the priorities and focus and rules of procedure of Committee Meeting on World Food Security in the future and some topics, such as, the coordination of the work of Committee Meeting on World Food Security and related work around the world and in the region. At the same time, the ministerial meeting on food price volatility was also held.
the participants of this meeting are representatives from 121 members and 14non-members of Committee Meeting on World Food Security, many participants from a number of establishments (including 11 UN agencies and departments, 95 civil social organizations and 2 international and regional financing institutions, et al.) the secretary general of United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, President of IFAD, an executive officer of World Food Program, a special representative of UN Assistant Secretary-General in terms of food safety and nutrition and Chairman of the Steering Committee of High-level Nutrition Expert Group were present at the conference and made opening speeches respectively. Twenty-five ministers attended this meeting and delivered speeches on topics of food price volatility.
