At the invitation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Security Committee (CFS), with the approval of the Ministry of Agriculture, Prof. Xiande Li, Yangxian Chen (associate researcher) headed by the Ministry of Agriculture group went to Italy to attend the 43rd session of the CFS held at FAO headquarters from 17th, Oct to 21st,Oct.
　　　The Conference focused on sustainable livestock system, nutrition and climate change, concentrated on issues such as the role of animal husbandry in promoting sustainable agriculture for food security and nutrition, the integration of small farmers to markets. The conference also discussed the participation of the CFS in compositing“2030 The Sustainable Development Agenda”, the Global Strategy for Food Security and Nutrition, the monitoring of CFS decisions and recommendations, urbanization and rural transition and etc. CFS 116 Member States, 8 non-member countries and 10 from the United Nations, 123 civil society organizations, 2 international agricultural research organizations, 2 international and regional financial institutions, 84 private sector associations and private charitable funds, 44 observers attended the meeting.
　　　Our delegation delivered a keynote address on sustainable food systems, nutrition and climate change, exchanged country experiences on China's implementation of the 2030 sustainable development agenda. And also we actively participated in the "sustainable agriculture development for food security and nutrition, penetrated on the role of the livestock sector, the integration of small farmers to the market: policy recommendations, voluntary guidelines on responsible governance - global thematic activities, urbanization, rural transformation and impact on food security and nutrition. Before the meeting, our institute organized two expert consultations on relevant topics.
　   　The CFS secretariat is located in FAO which is a global forum with core funding support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO, IFAD) and the World Food Program (WFP). The organization is responsible for reviewing food security policies. The CFS holds a plenary meeting in Rome in October each year. Its vision is to become the most inclusive international and intergovernmental platform so that all stakeholders can work together in a coordinated manner to ensure food security and nutrition for all human beings.
