2016 Chinese Association of Agro-technical Economics Symposium with the theme of “Implement the new conception of the development and accelerate the construction of agricultural modernization”, which was sponsored by Chinese Association of Agro-technical Economics and hosted by Colleges of Economics& Management, South China Agricultural University, was successfully held in Guangzhou between the 12th and 14th October. Nearly 400 experts and scholars all over the country who were engaged in the research and teaching of agro-technical economy attended this annual meeting.    
　　　The opening ceremony was presided over by researcher Wang Jimin, vice-standing president of Chinese Association of Agro-technical Economics and deputy director of Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development, CAAS. Academician Liu Xu, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the former president of Chinese Association of Agro-technical Economics, made the opening statement. He pointed out that although our country’s agricultural development has made remarkable achievements in recent years, it still faced lower agricultural resource factors, degradation of agricultural environment, extraordinary changes for the structure of agricultural labor force and other new conditions and new challenges; it desperately needed to speed up the transformation of agricultural industrial system and strived to build the system of modern agriculture. By 2020, our country will build the industry system, production system and management system of modern agriculture, improve the agricultural quality benefit and competitiveness, promote the coordination of food, cash crops and feed crops, the combination of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, the integration of planting, breeding and agricultural product processing industry, and integrative development of primary, secondary and tertiary industries, and form a modern agriculture with efficient output, product safety, resource conservation and friendly environment. 　　　
　　　Subsequently, the congress selected a new president of Chinese Association of Agro-technical Economics. Academician Tang Huajun, newly selected president of the Association and vice president of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences made warm remarks, comprehensively expounded the development direction and key works of the Association in the future, and made clear that the Association shall do something in the aspects of serving for the government decision, pushing discipline construction, supporting industry development, carrying out various activities, implementing third party assessment as well as doing talent marketing and scientific research evaluation well. In addition, the experts, including Luo Biliang, Zhou Yingheng, Huo Xuexi and Wang Mingli, also made the keynote speech around the theme. 　　　
　　　In order to further enhance the academic atmosphere of seminar and provide the opportunity for academic exchanges of young scholars, the meeting also conducted the discussion concentrated around 6 special topics, including the quality and efficiency of agricultural supply system, peasant household’s technology application and their behavior choice, protection of agricultural resources and environment and quality safety of agricultural products, integrative development of agricultural industry and targeted poverty alleviation, food security and agricultural supply, as well as agricultural land right verification and peasant household’s income. A total of nearly 70 scholars carried out the report and exchange. This meeting also added nine standing directors, including Cai Huiyi, Zhang Yuejie, Qing Ping, Li Jianping, Tang Zhong, Wu Dongli, Zhao Minjuan, Wen Tao and Sun Sufen, and five directors, including Xin Yi, Xiao Hongbo, Zhao Jiang, Wang Zhidan and Guo Tianbao, as well as one deputy secretary general Li Jianping.
　　　Although it’s quite short for this meeting, but the schedule was tight and efficient. The participating representatives spoke enthusiastically and made a heated discussion, with plentiful harvest, strong academic atmosphere and higher academic level. This meeting achieved the desired purposes and it was succeeded.
