On Nov. 16, being invited by Li Xiande, a chief scientist of Innovation Team of “Overseas Agricultural Economics & Agricultural Policy”, Professor Wang Sangui, from SARD (School of Agricultural and Rural Development) Remin University of China made an academic report on “New International Poverty Line and Global Poverty” at IAED (Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development, CAAS). 　　
        Li Xiande hosted the symposium. For his academic report, Professor Wang Sangui mainly focuses on three aspects: the new international poverty line defined by the World bank; global poverty status under the new international poverty line; poverty status in China under the new international poverty line. 　　
　　After the academic report, the researchers in IAED had a deep exchange with Professor Wang Sangui on a series of problems, including the comparison between estimation of the poor  done by the World Bank and the estimation of the hungry done by FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization), the reason why the poor is greatly decreasing in China, the policy “targeted poverty alleviation” in China, comparison between the impact on poverty reduction by poverty alleviation and the impact on poverty reduction by economic development etc. 　　　
　　Professor Wang Sangui has been devoting to studying the rural poverty for a long time. Now, he is the professor of SARD of Renmin University, as well as a member of Consulting Committee of State Council Poverty Alleviation Team, academic consultant of IPRCC (International Poverty Reduction Center in China) and other titles. So far, he has published seven academic monographs and more than 100 academic articles at home and abroad. His scientific achievements had obtained lots of honors, such as Scientific Award of “13th Sun Zhifang Economy”, Research Award of “4th China Rural Development” “Scientific Achievement Award of 1st Youcheng Poverty Alleviation” held by State Council Poverty Alleviation Office.
