The China Agricultural Sector Development Report 2023 Released
On May21, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) co-organized the China Agricultural Sector Development Report 2023 (CASDR) and IFPRI 2023 Global Food Policy Report (GFPR) launch event in Beijing. The CASDR2023and 2023 GFPRwere released by CAAS and IFPRI at the forum, respectively.
The launch event discussed the current status and trends of China agricultural sector and the hot topics of global food policy and nutrition security.
Wu Kongming, the President of CAAS, pointed out that 2023 is the first year for fully implementing the guiding principles from the Party’s 20th National Congress, and also the start year for moving fast to build China into an agriculture powerhouse. CAAS will continue to strengthening the research,moving faster to build a more high quality think tanks and leading the strategy research in rural areas and agriculture.
CASDR 2023withthe theme of building China into a strong agriculture power house, to discuss the hot topicsof China Agricultural Sector Development. The report shows thatthe new round of actions to increase grain production capacity by 50 MMT is mainly maize and soybean, and the key is breed and technology application. In addition, the entire industry chain of China's three major grain crops can reduce losses by about 100 billion catties.2023 GFPR pointed out theways to deal with the crisis, such as establishing the early warningmechanism, the resilient food system, supporting vulnerable groups and enhancing its capability.
