In order to enhance researcher’s development ability of balance model for agricultural products and ability of using application models to solve practical issues, and to provide technical support for the development and application of economic model of Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development,  the Institute invited Diao Xinshen, a senior researcher of International Food Policy Research Institute, to attend the development of balance model for agricultural products and application training on December 18 to  December 27, 2017. Secretary Li Sijing and Deputy Director Sun Dongsheng attended the opening ceremony of training course. Secretary Li Sijing introduced the background and purpose, and declared the important meaning of this training. More than 40 researchers and postgraduates attended this training.

During the training, Mr. Diao introduced not only the base of economic theory of the background of the model, but also explained the step of structure of the model carefully, including model structure and formula, data requirement, model parameter calibration, the realization and solution of model in GAMS program, and modeling scheme design, result output and others. He illustrated that how to start modeling analysis by using the model with a convincing example, and gave many assignment of practical operation modeling exercise. He answered the varieties of questions of the trainee, and discussed the next expand and application with them.

The researchers, who attended this training, thought this training was quite targeted and they learned a lot. The training unite the research method, solution software, data requirement of different agricultural products, which meet the analysis requirement of single product and meet the requirement of analyzing of multiple products. With the great flexibility, not only the modeling analysis of each type products can be done carefully, but also it is convenient for our communication. It is helpful for the model integration and can apply to policy modeling analysis extensively when the interaction and correlation of different types of products have been taken into account.
