“Foreign agricultural economy and policy“ innovation team invited Dr. Mateusz Filipski from International Food Policy Research Institute for academic exchanges

             On the afternoon of Oct. 26, the Innovation Team for Agricultural Products and Trade Policy, in collaboration with the International Center for Agricultural and Rural Development, invited Dr. Mateusz Filipski, a researcher at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) delivered a speech entitled “Migration, Wages, and Agricultural Transformation in Myanmar: The case of Mon State”. In the report, Dr. Mateusz Filipski took the Burma province of Mon as an example to introduce the economic situation in Myanmar, the situation of labor force working in Thailand, and analyze the influencing factors of migrant workers. He also further explored the effects of migrant workers on local wages, transformation of major plants, mechanization, agricultural transformation and a wide range of impacts on the local economy. More than 20 researchers and graduate students participated in the seminar, and exchanged views on China and Myanmar's migrant workers, agricultural and rural economic transformation, and related research methods.
   Dr. Mateusz Filipski is a researcher at the International Food Policy Research Institute and a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Davis. Dr. Mateusz Filipski specializes in general equilibrium model analysis, focusing on the development of economics and policy assessments, including Africa and some developing countries in Asia such as Malawi, Ghana, Ethiopia, Zambia, Myanmar and China. In recent years, Dr. Mateusz Filipski has published many high-level papers in various international journals, such as "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences", "World Development" and "American Journal of Agricultural Economics". Besides the academic papers, he also published a book entitled  "Beyond Experiments in Development Economics: Local Economy-wide Impact Evaluation" in 2014 in Oxford University Press .
