Senior researcher from international Food Policy Research Institute making academic report
On August 21, 2012, professor Sherman Robinson, who is the senior researcher of international Food Policy Research Institute and international authoritative expert on computable general equilibrium model, was invited to make an academic report entitled “national level CGE model simulation climate change adaptation measures".
Professor Robinson introduced the background and significance, the research framework and research methods, done research, the team composition and the relationship between the two groups of the project of “climate change effects and adaptation measures. He takes Ethiopia as an example, have told especially the CGE mode adopted, modeling scheme design and simulated result. they used CGE model to simulate the impact of climate change on temperature and water, also the agricultural productivity and traffic, discussed the three adaptive measure projects including agricultural investment, dam construction and road investment, compared the cost benefit, welfare loss and effect on the different income communities under the drought and moist two types conditions. The results show that climate change has a strong negative effect to the Ethiopia which is agriculture predominantly, and similar effect to different income groups. The adaptive measures will help to mitigate the negative impact of climate change, especially generally benefit under the poor weather conditions. He proposed to adopt the adaptive measure consistent with the agricultural development strategy of tackle climate change, such as strengthening infrastructure construction, increase technology research and development and promotion et al.
the seminar was hosted by professor Chen Zhigang, who is the direct of IFPRI China project and international agricultural and rural development research center, more than 30 researcher and graduate student from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, agricultural economic research Institute attend the conference and make kindly interaction and communication with professor Robinson.

Dr. Sherman Robinson is the senior researcher of IFPRI, visiting fellow of Britain Sussex University development institute, Economics Professor (reputational), visiting professor of ISS. He served as consultant of the World Bank in long-terms, and senior visiting personnel in the ERS of USDA, Congressional Budget office and President Clinton's Council of economic advisers and other institutions, engaged in the research on trade issues, including regional trade agreements, the GATT / WTO negotiations, North America free trade agreements.
Dr. Robinson is the international authority of the CGE model. CGE model is a standardized policy analysis tool for the trade and fiscal policy reform analysis, regional election system, structural adjustment and development strategy. Professor Robinson has a wide range of research areas, including international trade, economic growth, agriculture and resources, climate change, macroeconomic policies, income distribution, et al.. the maximum entropy estimation method of Professor Robinson's research is widely used in developing countries. Professor Robinson has published a lot of valuable works and academic papers in the above fields.
