On Dec. 25, Professor Jiang Heping was interviewed by Xinhuanet for the Central Conference of Rural Work, where he analyzed the difficulties encountered by the structural reform on China’s agricultural supply.
Professor Jiang Heping pointed out that the central government required to strengthen the structural reform on agricultural supply, which delivered a new signal that trying to guarantee the food security via sparing no expense and investment does not work, what we need to d is to carefully think about the input-output ratio and the benefits; in the view of agricultural supply, Central Conference of Rural Work offered a right “prescription” for the conflicts and challenges suffered by agricultural development in China.
Professor Jiang Heping said that with the good harvest for several years, agricultural products in China is quite sufficient, however, there is a structural conflict between product quantity and product quality, and consumers’ requirements on product quality are getting higher and higher while there are large amounts of agricultural products in China are at a level of lower-end. Therefore, in the future, the main task is to strengthen the structural reform on agricultural supply and realize the balance (from a low level to a high level) between demands and supply.
Professor Jiang Heping thought that in the view of reform on agricultural supply, it is mandatory for China to increase the supply of green, organic and safe products but decrease the supply of common agricultural products; it is mandatory to speed up the adjustment of agricultural structure in order to satisfy higher requirements proposed by consumers and enhance the competitiveness of China’s agriculture. Therefore, China’s agriculture shall not only focus on the quantity of agricultural products but the quality of agricultural products. Pay more attention to the benefits and try to satisfy consumers’ demands.
What Professor Jiang Heping said was widely accepted by the public. After being reported by Xinhuanet, other media (like People.com.cn and Chongqing Daily) gave high attention; what he said was reprinted by lots of websites. In this way, the influence of IEAD was greatly widened and enhanced.
